Of the 30,000 concealed carry permits issued in Utah last year, 19,000 went to women. At over 63 percent, it’s the highest female proportion in a decade. Michelle Camp is a firearms instructor and state leader of The Well Armed Woman. She says the mindset has changed for women in the state. They no longer look to others for their defense. They are taking responsibility and getting the training they need to defend themselves with a firearm. She grew up in a gun-owning family, and got her permit once she began her career in collections. But many new members haven’t touched a firearm until after 40. Everyone needs a plan for situations where they must protect themselves. Training and preparing for it only makes sense.
